When Casey Georgeson founded SAINT JANE, which launched in January 2019, she had a similar goal to The Local Moms Network—helping other women. “SAINT JANE aspires to help women become their best through thoughtfully sourced, performance-driven formulations,” says the California-based mom of three girls. Her line ofluxury, 100% clean CBD beauty brand was named after an actual saint who lived in the 1500s and healed people—and Casey believes her products will have a similar affect. “The wellness benefits of CBD for skin run deep, so we’ve paired CBD in high concentrations with organic, potent botanicals that support the CBD mission of delivering overall skin health,” says Casey.
Her resume is impressive: A beauty industry vet, she lead Kendo’s brand development for Marc Jacobs Beauty, Kat von D, Elizabeth & James Nirvana and Disney for Sephora. She also worked as a CNN producer and helped launch popular wine brands like Cupcake Vineyards. Here’s a bit more about this inspiring entrepreneur, and SAINT JANE:
Why start a CBD beauty line?
I’ve spent my career developing wine and beauty brands and always wanted to create my own. It wasn’t until I came across CBD as a skincare ingredient in early 2018 that I felt compelled to take that leap. When California was legalizing Cannabis, I read an article that touted CBD as “Nature’s Xanax meets Advil”. I went to a San Francisco dispensary to learn about CBD and its benefits in skincare. About a year later, and after lots of research, I launched SAINT JANE.
How has your background contributed to this launch?
My background is in the wine and beauty industries where I leaned into effective formulas and beautiful, thoughtfully sourced ingredients. I started my career in beauty as Sephora’s first MBA intern while I was studying at Stanford. After graduating, I joined Kendo (Sephora’s brand incubator), where I was part of the team that launched brands like Marc Jacobs Beauty, Elizabeth and James and Disney for Sephora and a few others. What misconceptions about CBD/CBD in beauty products have you encountered?
There is a lot of misinformation out there. The #1 misconception is that using CBD will make you feel high. CBD is completely non-psychoactive and more like a vitamin. In fact, I named the brand SAINT JANE because CBD is the innocent side of the Cannabis plant. CBD is a wellness ingredient and our products underscore the plant-powered mission of the molecule.
What has surprised you about the launch so far? And what has been your favorite part?
When I began SAINT JANE, it was definitely a side hustle and I thought I would share my products with friends and family. At the time, I was the head of Creative for The Wine Group where I created brands like Cupcake Vineyards and Ava Grace. But the reception/reaction to our hero product Luxury Beauty Serum was beyond my wildest dreams. The clean beauty retailer, Credo wanted to the launch the brand at their stores on and their site and iconic retailers like Neiman Marcus and Sephora quickly followed. My favorite part has been meeting our customers or hearing from them via social media and learning how our products have helped them with skin issues that they have struggled with for years.
Do you have any working mom strategies you’ve employed as a busy working mom?
Involve the little ones as much as possible! They’re sponges and want to learn. My daughters have helped with everything from packing boxes to naming products. Every once in a while, I’ll see them drawing products with fun brand names, complete with registered tm symbols. I also try to limit the digital distractions after 6p and before they go to bed. It’s challenging but a couple of hours of quality time with them makes all the difference for me, and them.
What are your favorite products from the line and why?
Our Luxury Beauty Serum is a really special product. The formula and the results are really unique. It has literally changed people’s skin…many of whom suffered from skin conditions that required prescription creams. It’s a bold, powerful face serum packed with 500mg CBD. I use it day and night and my skin has never felt healthier.
Who is your line aimed at, and why?
Everyone. We all have an Endocannabinoid System which is the human body’s network of cannabinoid receptors. Thanks to this system, our bodies see the benefits of cannabinoids like CBD. CBD is a powerful nutrient that has more antioxidants than Vitamin C and E, and the molecule itself is small, so it penetrates the skin barrier better and faster. We use full spectrum extract in our skincare products, because they deliver CBD plus the whole plant nutrients. We believe the cannabinoids work together to deliver beautiful results.
If someone is going to try one product, what should it be?
Our hero product, Luxury Beauty Serum. It is a truly special formula with 20 botanicals that were thoughtfully curated to support the wellness mission of CBD. We use 500mg of Full Spectrum CBD because I passionately believe in high doses of CBD for optimal absorption and overall skin health.
What’s next for you and Saint Jane?
We are busy creating new products for 2020 and beyond. I am very excited for what’s to come. For me personally, I’m looking forward to more products that pair CBD with other incredibly potent skincare superheroes.
Do you have a mom uniform/5-minute beauty routine?
Luxury Beauty Serum plus mascara and Microdose Lip Gloss. This combination makes you look like you’ve had 8 hours of sleep and your daily water requirements. Also, daily gratitude checks with myself keep me sane. I find that everything is brighter when I stop and remember all of the things I once wanted so badly and now have…a family, a career I love, health, and my tribe of women.
How has being a mom inspired your career/Saint Jane?
I remember when my first daughter was born, I kept thinking…I just want her to be proud of me. Over the years, I’ve worked hard to create balance and to make sure they’re at the heart of everything I do. SAINT JANE is female-centric and girl empowering – that’s a direct result of having three daughters. I want them to know they can do anything if they set their minds to it. Saint Jane dedicated her life to healing women…I’m hoping I can raise my girls to look out for each other, and women around the world.
