Meet-A-Mom, and teacher at Pierce Elementary- Nicole Nahigian! | Birmingham Bloomfield Hills Moms

How many children do you have and what are their names and ages?

Two boys! Niko-6 Alex-3

Where do your children go to school?

Niko attends Pierce Elementary and Alex attends West Maple Preschool.

How did you and your husband meet?

We met in 4th grade while attending Quarton Elementary.

What made you decide to raise your family here?

We both grew up in this community and knew how solid the education in this area was in the Birmingham School District.

What’s your favorite thing to do as a family around Birmingham/Bloomfield Hills?

Definitely walks and picnics at Cranbrook house and gardens. 🙂

What are your kids favorite classes/activities around town?

Goldfish swim, Gymboree, Music Together, soccer, t-ball, the Detroit Zoo, and the Baldwin Library programs are awesome!

#Momhack: What have you done at home that has been successful with parenting the boys?

We always have homemade frozen spinach cubes in our freezer and add them to everything to give the boys an extra kick of veggies.  You can add them to smoothies, pasta sauce, pancakes, muffins, etc. All you have to do is quickly saute the spinach, immersion blend, and freeze!

Tell us about job at Pierce!

I work at Pierce as an elementary resource room teacher.  I have worked here since 2011.  I have a dual masters in Learning Disabilities and Autism. My original degree was in elementary education and I taught for 3 years as a 1st and 2nd grade classroom teacher as well.

What was it like being a teacher during a pandemic? How did you manage? What helped you get through it?

Teaching during the pandemic has been a rollercoaster of a year. I feel like staying positive and remaining flexible has gotten me through. What is best for children is always at the forefront of my mind, so focusing on that has helped as well.

What did you notice about the students during the pandemic?

I have observed students making huge growth in all subject areas this school year.  They have also learned tons of new ways to use technology to enhance their learning. I think this will help our student’s future use of technology and flexible learning in middle school, highschool, and college!

What ages/subjects do you tutor? How can a parent reach out to you if they are interested?

Kindergarten-8th grade all subject areas.  You can find her contact info HERE on the Birmingham Bloomfield Hills Moms Website.
