Meet Tara Stover! Mom to 15 month old Brooklyn and owner of Shoppe Cozette, an e-commerce lifestyle shop with all the little things that bring you joy! You’ll want to check this shop out. She’s big on self-care and building her own business with the must haves for moms. Read more to learn about Tara, her beautiful family and her incredible store.

How many children do you have and what are their names and ages?

I have one daughter who is 15 months old and her name is Brooklyn.

Where do your children (or child)  go to school?

No school yet, but loves music class at the community house and swim class at goldfish in Birmingham.

Being a newer mom, do you have any advice or top tips for moms who are about to have the first?

So much advice! Be patient with yourself while navigating this new beautiful life with your child. I think I put so much pressure on myself to read every sleep training book out there or take advice from other moms that it was info overload and I really stressed myself out. Find a routine that works for you and your baby! Every child has different needs. Once I put down the books and listened to what my baby really needed, I felt less anxious and we both got a really good routine going! Also.. GO ON DATE NIGHTS once or twice a week. I wish my husband and I listened to friends and family about this. Marriage first 😊

Tell us more about your business and background? You’re the owner of Shoppe Cozette, an e-commerce lifestyle shop?  Most moms love to shop!

Retail has been in my blood since I’ve been a baby. My parents owned clothing stores back in the 70s and opening up my own Brick and Mortar was something I’ve always dreamed of. After moving back from LA in 2017 I opened up Scarborough Square boutique in downtown Rochester with my father and had a good 4 year run, but closed during the height of Covid. I got pregnant and was ready to focus on being a mom. When my daughter was 6 months old I decided I needed to get back into it, but this time focusing on vintage home décor with a very curated selection of elevated basics. The name Cozette is French meaning every little thing and that’s basically what I carry… every little thing that fills your home and closet with joy. From candles to denim to vintage tees to books.. we have it all!

What are some of the amazing vintage pieces someone can find and looking at the site, you have some of the best basic mom wear. What are some things you carry?

Some of my favorite vintage pieces I find/ carry are old elm stools. They are so fun and can really dress up any room in your home. I carry one of a kind vintage vases from all over the world- lots more vintage pieces to come with all the buying shows I have on the calendar after the new year.  As for basics my best-selling brand is perfect white tee. You can’t go wrong with paring a t-shirt with vintage levi’s and dressing up your look with some gold hoops or dressing down with some sneakers. I also carry a brand called LNA that has some of the best classic pieces out there ( dresses, long sleeves, t-shirts, sweaters).

Being a newer business owner, any advice for a new mom, or mom who is looking to start a business.

Networking is so important. Get yourself out there.. say yes to every dam event because word of mouth is so important and I know moms love to support female ran businesses!

What made you decide to raise your family here?

We love Birmingham! Everything is so walkable and you really can’t beat the school district. Our community is all about bringing people and businesses together.

What’s your favorite family activity in Birmingham/Bloomfield Hills?

We love going to the Farmers market on Sundays and walking over to Luxe for a nice lunch after. Brooklyn, of course, loves Booth Park on the weekends.

Where are your favorite places around town with your kids?

Booth Park, Forest Hills swim club, and Griffin Claw. The patio at Griffin claw is kid friendly and being somewhat new to Birmingham we have met so many new friends there.

What do you do to balance your own life and motherhood? What do you do for “me” time? Juggling your own business and kids is always hard work.

I love working out. Routine is so important for my mental health. I’m big on self-care.. I run 4 days a week and love Melissa Wood Health for Pilates. To be honest she really transformed my life. She has a calmness to her that’s so healing and is a badass relatable business mom.

Anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?

My husband & my mom. I owe the world to them!
