How many children do you have and what are their names and ages?

Annie: Our family has 2 wonderful girls. Their names are Sloane (5) and Ellie ( Just turned 3)

Priya: Our family has 3 beautiful children, Jack-7 years old, Leela-5 years old and Rohan-2 years old.

.

Where do your kids go to school?

Annie: Sloane attends the Academy of Sacred Heart and Ellie will be joining her there in June. We ended up at Sacred Heart due to COVID school closures, and they have been so incredibly amazing to our family, that it would be hard to imagine leaving. We have developed such a wonderful and supportive community there.

Priya: Our kids attend our neighborhood elementary, Gesu Catholic School. We love how inclusive and supportive the school is and that it feels like a home away from home for our children.

You have an incredible business/practice that you offer our community, The Healing Home Group. Tell us more about it.

Healing Home Counseling Group is a boutique practice that emphasizes not only the well-being of our clients but also all of our staff. We believe the wellness journey comes full circle and that starts with your therapist feeling mentally and physically well.

Everyone on our staff is either perinatal trained or certified. When someone is in the perinatal stage, including dad’s or birthing partners, it is very important to seek out a specialist that is trained in perinatal mental health if they are experiencing symptoms of a perinatal mood disorder.

During this time symptoms can present in a different manner. Parenting, pregnancy, childbirth and fertility issues bring dramatic change into your life and significantly impact your emotional well-being. It may not just be the challenge of fertility treatments, or “morning sickness,” or “baby blues” that bring feelings of isolation or anxiety. Even with healthy pregnancies that result in healthy babies, many women, men and families struggle silently, dismissing feelings of sadness, anger or mental exhaustion. Fertility, pregnancy and postpartum-related issues are very effectively addressed through therapy though and can provide the emotional support you deserve. With proper therapeutic support, you can find validation and develop healthy coping mechanism without fear of judgment.

We also offer children and youth therapy services because we wanted to be sure we were inclusive to younger family members who are in need of therapy services.

.

Both of you have some incredible credentials, can you help us moms that aren’t all familiar in this area what they are?

Annie: I am a proud graduate of the clinical social work program at University of Michigan ( Go Blue) and am a licensed clinical social worker and psychotherapist. I am also certified in perinatal mental health through Postpartum Support International and am EMDR Trained through the Touchstone Institute with a specialty in Postpartum Trauma. I spent the beginning of my career working at Children’s Hospital in Detroit, where I gained the necessary knowledge and training to support families during very difficult transitions in life.

Priya: I am proud to be a licensed clinical social worker and certified in perinatal mental health care. I have completed both basic and advanced training in perinatal mood and anxiety disorders and perinatal grief and loss. Following the certification exam, our practice prioritizes ongoing continuing education so that we can maintain our credentials with up-to-date evidence-based care for this special population. I also have had the privilege of earning my Master of Public Health degree in population-based care and am glad to have the medical knowledge to enhance our practice’s community and individual impacts.

What sets the healing home group apart from other practices in mental health?

Healing Home Counseling Group offers an array of different therapy modalities due to the unique backgrounds of all the therapists on staff. Some of these include CBT, EMDR, play-based therapy, and trauma informed care. Healing Home Counseling Group’s goal is to make you feel like you have a “home away from home” that is calm and nurturing. Our space is very comforting and a nice escape from the sometimes-chaotic experience of parenthood.

What are the main specialties that your practice focuses on? I think it’s amazing for our community of moms?

Healing Home Counseling Group offers an empowering space to heal, regain strength and restore peace in your home. We are a certified perinatal, family and youth therapy group. All our clinicians are perinatal mental health (PMH) trained or certified. Some of our staff are also EMDR ( Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) trained with an emphasis on BIPOC and Perinatal trauma.

If someone is interested, what’s the best way for them to get in touch with you?

The best way for people to reach out to us for information about our services or to schedule an appointment is by phone at 248-792-8093 or by email at [email protected]. We are always happy to provide a brief consult to ensure our team is the best fit for an individual or family’s needs.

Tell us a fun fact about you:

Annie: My husband and I love to travel. Pre-Kids we traveled to over 35 countries. The most special travel memory is our trip to Nepal where we trekked to Mt. Everest Basecamp.

Priya: I am a combat veteran and former paratrooper who served for several years as a medical operations officer in the Army after graduating from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

What made you decide to raise your family here?

Annie: My husband and I are both from Michigan and we knew we would always come back to raise our children. It is so special to have a community of extended family members that are readily available to step in when we need help and provide our children with love and care.

Priya: We really want our family to have a mix of different experiences, people and cultures and Michigan and metro area in particular gives us that opportunity. We currently reside in the city of Detroit, which we love and allows us to be close to family, and are proud to work and play in the beautiful suburban Bloomfield and Birmingham areas.

What’s your favorite family activity to do during the summer months?

Annie: Our family loves to swim and golf. You can find us at Pine Lake Country Club, either on the golf course, at the lake or in the pool. We also love the outdoors and enjoy going to our families cottage up north Michigan.

Priya: Our family loves to swim all summer and you can find us at the Detroit Golf Club almost daily enjoying the pool and sunshine.

If you could take your family on any vacation, where would you surprise them and why?

Annie: I would love to take our girls to South Korea. My husband and I lived there before having children. It is such a beautiful culture and I want to show them that there is more to food than chicken fingers and French fries. Big Kimchi fan over here!

Priya: As a first and second generation immigrant family, we’d love a surprise trip to Ireland and India to enjoy the beautiful people and cultures in both countries and connect with our extended families.

What do you do to balance your own life and motherhood? What do you do for “me” time? Juggling your own business and kids is always hardwork.

Annie-  Exercise, napping and my amazing community of friends. I try to stick to my exercise routine, taking naps when I can, even if it s on my couch at work. My friends and I switch off weekly dinner nights at each other homes, where we get carry out and have our kids play together, while we all vent to each other about our work weeks and parenting.

Priya: I always try to prioritize setting aside open time in my schedule each day before adding in the necessary work. Setting boundaries in that manner allows me to feel balanced and allows for my family, friends and clients to receive the best version of me as well.

Anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?

Annie- My parent’s and in-laws have been such an amazing support. It is so hard to find a healthy work-life balance and they are definitely stepping in when they recognize we are burnt out and offering a sleepover or a date night. My amazing husband has been so supportive through the journey of starting my own business while raising two young children. You can often see him in the drop off and pick up line at school due to my long work hours. I’d also like to thank my incredible partner at Healing Home, Priya, without her I don’t think any of this would’ve been possible.  We both had early 2020 COVID babies and had to make some crucial decisions about our careers. I couldn’t have picked a better mom and business partner to open Healing Home Counseling Group with.

Priya: I’d like to thank my mom, my mother-in-law and husband who have provided such amazing examples of what it is to love children with your whole heart and always encourage them to pursue their dreams. I’d also like to thank my incredible partner, Annie, who is an amazing mother with so much wisdom. I’m so lucky to walk alongside her in our journeys of parenthood.
