Meet-a-Mom: Jenny Clark of Jenny’s Photography | Birmingham Bloomfield Hills Moms

Meet Jenny Clark of Jenny’s Photography. She’s a mom to 3 boys and has lived in Chicago the last 10 years until last summer. We are so glad to have your family here and your talented photography business too! For Mother’s Day, Jenny is offering the most adorable Motherhood Portrait session for you and your little ones. She truly captures those lifestyle moments. Read more about Jenny, her family and incredible business. (And not to mention her her fun fact.)

How many children do you have and what are their names and ages?

I have 3 boys – Gus (7) Abe (5) Sam (3).  They call themselves – The G.A.S Bros.

Where do your kids go to school?

Gus goes to Hugger Elementary,  Abe and Sam go to Somerset Academy.

You own your own photography business, what made you go down the path of photography?

Photography was a hobby for me while I worked my corporate jobs.  Then turned side business as I figured out my stay-at-home-mom life in Chicago.  Using photos to freeze time as my kids grew was such a gift.  I decided I wanted to share it.  Fast forward 7 years and Tim’s job brought us back to Michigan.  I’m so excited to grow my business and raise my family in the place I love most.

You have the most adorable Mother Day Session’s coming up. Tell us more about them and how moms can snag one of them with her children.

Thank you!  Mother’s Day is so special and I wanted to offer a simple, but special gift for the great mamas out there.  It’s also a no brainer gift for those procrastinating dads (no judgment ☺ )!

The sessions are roughly 30 minutes at the location of your choice, within Metro Detroit.  You will receive 20 digital images via an online gallery within a few days of the session.  The gallery is sharable and offers print, framing and gift options.  You can contact me at [email protected] to book.  I’m offering them now through May 10th!

What kind of services and sessions do you offer with Jenny’s Photography?

I am a documentary family photographer.  My approach is more relaxed, my goal is for everyone to feel seen and actually enjoy the photoshoot experience.  Think of a session with me as more of a hang-out-with-a-camera!  During our time together I like to step back, observe, and photograph you as you are.  I do give direction and encourage fun interactions so that you aren’t left feeling awkward or uncomfortable. The results are photos that offer an accurate glimpse of what your life actually looks like together – the real stuff you want to remember, the magical moments that make you YOU.

I feel humbled and honored to document people’s unique stories as they are being written.  Whether it’s a family session, maternity, couples, engagements, your Sunday routine or a trip to the farmers market –  I will capture it honestly and artfully.

Tell us a fun fact about you?

I’ve never broken a bone.  Did I just jinx it?  Not sure if that’s fun, but it’s the first thing that came to me.  Oh and I drive in silence (when I’m alone).  Tims says I’m a psycho, but it just feels right!  Maybe these should be called weird facts about me.

What made you decide to raise your family here?

Tim and I are both from Michigan.  We lived in Chicago for 10 years and his job brought us back to Detroit last summer.  We are so happy to be near family and raise our boys here.

What’s your favorite family activity to do in the summer? Or is there something you look forward to always doing in the summer?

My parents live near Lake Huron and we love to spend time with them on the water.   We also love to golf and look forward to taking the boys with us more as they get older.  Some of my favorite favorite summer things are alfresco dining, later bedtimes, sandy feet, sweaty skin, lemonade stands, backyard gatherings, bike rides to anywhere, summer rain, togetherness and so much more.

What do you do to balance your own life and motherhood? What do you do for “me” time? Juggling your own business and kids is always hardwork.

Balance is tricky for me.  I’m a perfectionist so giving anything less than 100% is hard to do, but prioritizing my family first and being transparent with my clients helps me stay true to who I am.  We’re all just doing our best, right?!  I do make time for myself each day, whether it’s going to the gym, rewatching Friends or drinking a martini.  I also try not to take myself too seriously and laugh as much as possible.  That sounds cheesy, but everyone should try it ☺

Anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?

I have a very helpful husband and I never take him for granted. My mom and my mother-in-law are my inspiration – collectively they have raised 9 amazing children (not biased at all). I also have the best best friend in the world, Maggie.   Surround yourself with people who make you happy.
