You’re the founder of Core (LP) Fitness in Berkley. Tell us more about it as I know this could be a great place for moms to build our strength.
When I first moved back from Los Angeles, where I learned and got certified in Lagree, I knew the Mid-West was missing out. There were only 1-2 studios at the time in the entire state. During the pandemic, my local studio closed. At first I was devastated, but I quickly turned that sadness into an idea. I was in the process of buying a home and decided that I was going to buy a Megaformer and begin teaching out of my house, in the hopes that one day I could quit my teaching job and open my own brick and mortar. With the help of Michigan Women’s Forward (a women only loan company) giving me a small micro-loan and my partner for sharing our space with people in and out of our home, I bought a Megaformer and began Core (LP) in November of 2020 out of my home with 2-3 clients. Fast forward to Fall of 2021 and I was able to replace my income with teaching 1:1 and quit my teaching job. Then in 2023 we opened our first brick in mortar in Berkley, MI with 7 machines and 1 private training room. There have been ups and downs but my long-time dream has come true.
At Core (LP) our mentality is that fitness is a life-style, not simply a one-and-done situation. Now don’t get me wrong, if you do the work you will see and feel the results quickly, but to maintain or even amplify your results, it takes consistency. Like a vinyl record or an (LP), fitness is a long play, a journey. At Core (LP) we are here to help you on your fitness journey every step of the way.
The Lagree Method. Most of us are probably unfamiliar with it, but you stumbled across this in LA and brought it here to Detroit. What exactly is it and what kind of change can our bodies expect?
The Lagree Method is truly one of a kind. It’s high intensity like Circuit Training and Running, but low to no impact like Pilates, which is great for our hormones, joints, muscles, and cardiovascular health. It was created by Sebastien Lagree, a long-time Pilates instructor who wanted a one-and-done workout so that clients could get the stretching, flexibility, and low-impact of Pilates, while getting the benefits of strength, endurance, and cardiovascular training. Plus Lagree focuses on our biggest muscle groups like the arms, obliques, core, and cheeks to give you a total body workout that allows you to quickly see definition and feel stronger! It is truly a game changer. In each 50-minute class you can expect your muscles to shake and your body to sweat. And in about 3 short weeks (coming about 2-4 times a week), you should start to see and feel a difference in your mobility, posture, and physique.

You work with so many moms in the area, what’s your favorite part of your job?
Honestly one of my favorite parts of my job is helping women find mobility and strength, especially in their core, that they didn’t think was possible. I’ve had so many women who have had DRA (diastasis recti) or a weak pelvic floor from childbirth for years and just accepted it as normal. Despite many of them exercising constantly, they still have a gap in their core or sometimes even coning that limits what they can do or keeps them from reaching their fullest fitness potential. For many, after a few months with Core (LP) they have gained control of their abdominals again, can actually push heavier weight, move more mindfully, and feel stronger than they did pre-children. Not to mention the community that we build every day. It’s a hard workout, so there is definitely camaraderie. Everyone roots each other on and it’s truly incredible to witness.
How did you get into this and what drove you to open up such an incredible fitness studio.
When I was living in Venice Beach, California, I was training for a half-marathon and kept running past this bright studio with these huge black machines that I had never seen before (The Megaformer). I had taught bootcamps and circuit training for years, but was always looking for something that would strengthen my core and keep me from hereditary spinal issues. I finally decided to stumble in and noticed they were hiring. When I tell you after week one I was hooked, I mean I was HOOKED. The music and energy was high like a spin-class, the instruction was more form focused than any workout I had ever done, and I could physically see my core change within 3 weeks. Plus after 7+ years of doing the workout, there’s always ways to make it more challenging and keep you from a plateau. I knew my home state of Michigan needed this!
What can one expect visiting and training at Core (LP) Fitness ?
You can expect a challenging, form focused workout from instructors who genuinely care about you and your goals with a community that is uplifting and supportive. The best thing about our classes is they are small (seven max) so that we can really cater to your needs, offer modifications or challenges, and help people reach their fullest potential. Plus if group classes aren’t your thing, we also have a dedicated private training room!
Tell us a fun fact about you?
I met my partner playing in an adult kickball league and have played every Thursday night for the past 5 years! As a kid you never think kickball is going to become your adult guilty pleasure.
What are you looking forward to this summer? Any fun travel or adventures planned?
I’m beyond excited to be outside and poolside. We plan to check out the Bourbon Trail later this summer and hopefully will make it up to northern Michigan as it’s our favorite place to be during the summer months!
You have a special code for us moms for coming to try out your studio. Share the deets.
Yes! If you are curious about checking Core (LP) out, use the code BBHMOMS when you go to purchase a ‘Single Class’ through our online STORE and get a complimentary class. Grip socks are required and available for purchase both for safety and sanitary purposes.
