Meet Maria. Local hairstylist, balayage expert and mama to Nelli and Phoenix. Located locally in Birmingham she’s been doing hair for over 14 years. When she’s not doing hair, she’ll be planning her next vacation to Disney. #disneymom. Maria, thank you so much for sharing your beautiful family.
How many children do you have and what are their names and ages?
I have 2 children. My son Phoenix is 6 and my daughter Nelli is 4 going on 14.
Our newest addition to the family is our French bulldog puppy, Wagyu who’s 5 months old.
Where do your kids go to school?
Both kids attend Pierce elementary
You’re a hairstylist, Maria Loves Balayage, tell us more your business
I’ve been doing hair for 14 years now, I’ve recently opened up my salon suite in downtown Birmingham. Located within Vibe salon suites, you can find me in suite #3, ready to give you your dream hair.
What made you want to be a hairstylist?
When I was a little girl I was always trying to play with everyone’s hair, friends and family would let me experiment with color and haircuts. As soon as I graduated high school I signed up for cosmetology school and I’ve never looked back.
What’s your specialty?
I specialize in extensions, lived-in hair color, and balayage.
And how do you stay on trend. I feel like hair is like fashion.
I’ve always been drawn to more natural effortless hair and natural hair colors never go out of style, however to stay on trend I attend hair classes and continue my education to keep feeling inspired and my passion flowing.
Tell us a fun fact about you?
I love Diet Coke, travel, and anytime I see the numbers 11:11 I make a wish.
What made you decide to raise your family here?
When I met my husband, he had already purchased a home in Birmingham. Once we had kids it just made sense to stay in an area that offered so many family based activities within the community, great parks, and amazing schools.
With the holidays around the corner, what do you and your family look forward to
I never thought I’d be a Disney mom, but it’s definitely become our tradition and something we look forward to as a family to get away to Florida just after the holidays. This will be our 4th annual Disney trip and I’m getting all the matching outfits ready now.
What do you do to balance your own life and motherhood? What do you do for “me” time? Juggling your own business and kids is always hardwork.
It’s so important for my mental health to make time for me. I love to treat myself with facials, getting my nails done, and massages. I’m big into the beauty world of self care, being in the industry myself it’s always been a priority, when we look good we feel good.
Anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?
My DAD! You’ve probably met him at the park or school pick up because he is always helping me with my kids. He really is the glue keeping our family running smoothly and allows me to work the days that I do.
