Meet-a-Mom | Lauren Zeid, Founder of Burrwood Vet | Birmingham Bloomfield Hills Moms

Meet Lauren Zeid, one of the Founders of Burrwood Vet here in Birmingham. She juggles here 2.5 year old daughter, her 8 month old son, her Goldendoodle Guster and over 4,000 fur baby patients.  Wow, that’s a lot.  When not taking care of our fur babies, Dr. Lauren Zeid can be found traveling internationally with her husband and enjoying up North with her family. Read more to learn more about her family and the amazing Vet that is “newer” to our area. (We are huge fans!)

How many children do you have and what are their names and ages? Fur babies too!

We have a 2.5 year old daughter named Zara and an 8 month old son named Asher. Last but not least we have a rescue goldendoodle named Guster (after my favorite band!)

Where do your kids go to school?

Right now they are still in an at home day care. Once they are old enough they will be in the Bloomfield Hills school district.

You’re one of the founders of Burrwood Vet? Tell us all about it. I’m a fan and so is our dog Dexter.

I have had the honor and privilege to watch Burrwood grow from the beginning. In a little over a year we went from 6 in house employees to over 20, over 4,000 patients, and a stellar reputation in the community. We have evolved our own special culture, client experience, and level of patient care that I am truly so proud to be a part of. Since graduating vet school in 2012, I have worked at other established practices. It has been a really unique and special opportunity to help build something from the ground up.

What’s so unique about Burrwood Vet?

Burrwood is not only a veterinary hospital, it is a whole experience! We first and foremost pride ourselves in offering the best medicine possible to our patients. However, we all know we can’t do it without the fur moms and dads, so we also focus on making sure we are transparent, convenient, and dedicated to client service. We know that going to the vet can be stressful, so things like a calming decor, treats, and fear free technique.

You’re staff is amazing and incredibly knowledge and kind.  What do you look for in hiring your staff?

Having a solid support staff team is absolutely crucial for our success. The technicians have so many important responsibilities that we really focus on hiring people that not only have excellent technical skills, but also have the interpersonal skills to work with clients and the rest of the staff.

Tell us a fun fact about you?

 have been to 6/7 continents!

What made you decide to raise your family here?

I grew up in Bloomfield Hills and my parents and siblings are still here as well. I lived in Chicago for a year between undergrad and vet school, and I lived in Colorado for 5 years after vet school. After all that time away, I was pretty “homesick” for Michigan and to be near my family again. I love that my children get to grow up with their cousins, and I feel so connected to my community here.

What’s your favorite family activity to do in the winter?

When I lived in Colorado I LOVED to ski! But with small children and not living close to the mountains, simple winter activities like building a snow man, making snow angels, and being  pulled in a little sled become magical again!

Any big travel plans this summer?

We would love to take the kids to the Upper Peninsula this summer, and if we are really brave, try camping for a night or two! My husband and I both love international travel so we are hoping to plan a big trip just the two of us.

What do you do to balance your own life and motherhood? What do you do for “me” time? Juggling your own business and kids is always hardwork.

Finding “me” time can definitely be a challenge. I do try to make exercise a priority- even if it means waking up at 5:00am! I also try to go out with friends, paint, and travel when I can.

Anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?

I would 100% like to thank my husband! He is incredibly supportive of both our family and of my career. Being a mom and being a vet are extremely rewarding, but definitely come with their unique challenges and having his support for both the highs and the lows is such a crucial part of my success.

I would like to thank my own mom, who provided me with the ultimate role model for a working mom- she was a teacher and an amazing mother to me and my two siblings.

Lastly I would like to thank my amazing colleagues who make coming to work fun!
