We’ve all seen some people in life who have perfectly glowy skin that makes us wonder what’s their secret. Is it genetics? Some miracle skincare product? Luck? Well, I’m here to break down the science of what factors contribute to that beautiful glass skin and how you too can achieve it. No Instagram filters required!

How to Get Radiant Skin: 3 Key Factors

Exfoliation

Our skin is made up of three main layers – the epidermis, dermis and hypodermis. The top layer of the epidermis is composed of dead skin cells called keratinocytes. This layer naturally sheds, but can do so in an uneven distribution. Without proper exfoliation, these cells build up and stick together, giving a dull appearance to the skin. The goal is to make this epidermal layer nice and thin, while plumping the dermis, which is where our collagen and elastin live. But beware! It’s important to find the correct products and treatments and use them at the right intervals because exfoliation that’s too aggressive can damage your skin barrier. A skin professional like an aesthetician can guide you in finding what’s right for you.

Hydration

As we get older and our hormones change, many individuals notice decreased hydration of the skin. This is particularly common right before and during menopause because of the lack of estrogen we experience. However, EVERYONE needs hydration, even those with oily or combination skin. Very often, skin can become oily because it’s attempting to create moisture. When you use the right products and treatments that bring back hydration, your oil grads can cool their jets and become more balanced. Just be sure to avoid pore-clogging ingredients like petrolatum (petroleum jelly) and oils like olive oil, castor and coconut oil because they can contribute to acne and bumpy skin texture.

Even Skin Tone

As skin matures and is exposed to UV rays from the sun, it’s common to see features that contribute to an uneven skin tone like redness, freckles and sun spots. For redness and rosacea, ingredients that nourish the skin and calm down irritation will help to get that redness under control. For pigmentation issues like freckles and sun spots, proper exfoliation (mentioned above) and skin brighteners will lift pigmentation and even out your skin tone. There are a few solutions for this, so read on to find out one of my absolute favorites.

Your Skin’s Savior: The Aquafirme Facial

So now we know that the 3 main factors to get that beautiful, glowy skin we all aspire for are proper exfoliation, deep hydration and an even skin tone. So how can we combine these factors to reach our skin goals? The Aquafirme Facial.

Currently, Lamese Laser is one of only 3 medical practices in Metro Detroit that offers this advanced technology. This treatment utilizes a device with two advanced technologies: hydradermabrasion (think Hydrafacial on steroids) and microdermabrasion. Hydradermabrasion uses solutions to exfoliate the skin while simultaneously infusing deep hydration and sucking up skin impurities to deeply cleanse your pores. Microdermabrasion refers to the use of a rough surface to gently polish your skin to safely exfoliate dead skin cells.

However, the real magic of this treatment comes from the rejuvenating solutions utilized in the device. Packed with plant-based exosomes that are used in regenerative medicine, these work to intensely hydrate and heal your skin cells to give you an incredible glow.

Is There Any Down Time?

There’s NO down time for the Aquafirme facial. In fact, many of our patients choose to come in for their Aquafirme 1-2 days before a special event because that’s when they see the most glow. That being said, I recommend avoiding makeup for the rest of the day after your treatment to allow those powerful ingredients to really soak into your skin.

Does It Hurt?

Girlfriend…not only does this treatment NOT hurt, it’s probably one of the most relaxing experiences you can treat yourself to. Think of it as a luxury facial (ex: dim mood lighting, neck massage and the works), but it completely transforms your skin. We also incorporate the viral hydrojelly masks that are customized to your skin needs to brighten, hydrate and heal.

When will I see results?

If you have had facials in the past, you may know that you typically need 3-6 facials to start to see results. However, with the Aquafirme facial, we’re seeing incredible results after just 1-3 treatments!

What if I have darker or ethnic skin? What if my skin is very sensitive or reactive?

This treatment is completely customizable and is safe for all skin types – even for melanin queens and those with sensitive or reactive skin. Because it utilizes rejuvenating exosomes, it does wonders to repair the skin barrier and calm irritated skin. To give you an idea about how safe it is, I often recommend this treatment for my patients just a week after an advanced laser treatment like the Halo to speed up the healing process.

Something my patients always hear me say is, “beautiful skin is healthy and healthy skin is beautiful.” At the end of the day, we want to treat our skin with care and give it the best that technology has to offer. After all…it’s your largest organ and your body’s first line of defense against harmful pathogens and pollution. When cared for well, we have the ability to reverse signs of aging and show up as the most beautiful and healthy version of ourselves.
