The Therapy SPOT was founded in 2014 with the goal to create a space where child led therapy was the norm, at a time when that wasn’t happening in most spaces. Our vision is to have a place our patients can return to again and again across their lifespan for any of their developmental needs and know they will get neurodivergent affirming care from our highly trained therapists. We provide speech, physical, and occupational therapy services to all ages, from birth to adult. We place a strong emphasis on family involvement in therapy as well as providing education to the community through presentations and workshops.
How can Occupational therapy or physical therapy help my child?
Occupational therapy is a type of therapy that helps people with anything that ‘occupies’ their time. For kids, this is often play and being independent. An occupational therapist (OT) may address things like sensory processing, emotional regulation, social skills, independence with tasks such as dressing, fine motor skills, and more. Physical therapy (PT) is a type of therapy that address physical difficulties such as strength, coordination, range of motion, reducing pain, and more. Treatment always starts with a thorough, individualized evaluation to understand your child’s unique needs. Our office will also conduct free consultations to help guide you to the right therapy type if you aren’t sure where to start!
How can speech therapy help my child?
Speech therapists address all things related to communication, which includes both verbal and nonverbal communication. Speech therapists may address skills such as using an AAC (communication device), pronouncing words clearly, asking and answering questions, reading, late talkers, and more. Just like OT and PT, speech therapy always starts with a comprehensive, individualized evaluation to understand your child’s needs. We always encourage involvement from the family to help establish goals that are meaningful.
It’s never too early to ask for help!
Early intervention is key to progress. Have a baby who doesn’t seem to be cooing as much as other babies? Or seems a little behind in their gross motor milestones? Or maybe is having a hard time with new foods? Or maybe they just seem a little more ‘difficult’ than other babies? These are times when OT, PT, or speech may be beneficial. A free consultation or evaluation doesn’t hurt- your child may not need therapy, but often we have tips and strategies to guide you!
Regardless of your child’s age, we are here to help. Our job is to peel back the many complex layers of your child to understand how their strengths and differences shape them and how we can guide them across their life. It is never too early to ask for help, but it never too late either!
The biggest difference you will find in our clinic is that we are utilizing evidenced based, cutting-edge approaches that are based on neuroscience and are trauma informed. We are a neurodivergent affirming office and recognize that all brains are unique and have a place in our society. We are fierce advocates for change in support of your unique child and our goal is to provide consistent and reliable support to your life. We encourage our patients to reach out even after discharge, sometimes even years later when they need guidance or have questions- once you are a member of our Therapy SPOT family, you always will be. That is a level of support that all families need!
From free consultations, to individualized therapy plans, to presentations, and even parent education workshops, there are many ways we can support kids and their families. Contact us to learn more about our services!
