Motherhood has a way of reshaping how we see the world—and for today’s featured mom, it’s also shaped how she shows up in her work as a therapist. As a mom of two young boys, she brings deep empathy, patience, and a profound respect for big feelings (even the little ones) into every session.
Today, we’re excited to introduce you to the heart behind Reset & Rise, a Birmingham-based therapy practice offering warm, evidence-based support for children, teens, adults, and families navigating anxiety and stress. From her journey into motherhood to her mission of helping others rise beyond anxiety, she’s sharing what inspires her work, what makes her practice unique, and the advice she wishes every mom could hear.
Can you tell us a bit about you—how many kids do you have, and what’s your favorite part of motherhood?
I have two boys, Hank is 5 years old and Bud is 2 years old. The best part of being a mother is experiencing everything through their eyes. They are adventurous, imaginative and confident. Qualities I admire and love to watch as they explore the world. Being a mom has given meaning to my life. It motivates me to work harder and be better everyday. I want my boys to be proud of me and have a strong woman to look up to. Also, the hugs and cute little voices. Being a mom has also shaped how I show up as a therapist – with more patience, empathy and respect for how big even small feelings can be.

What inspired you to become a therapist?
My mission has always been to leave the world a little better than I found it, especially for people who feel overlooked or weighed down by anxiety and life’s circumstances. After years in nonprofits, school social work in inner-city Detroit, and research on homelessness and employment at the University of Michigan, I was trained in exposure-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and saw people with severe anxiety begin to reclaim their lives in a matter of months. Today, some of the most meaningful work I do is walking alongside children, teens, and adults as they face their fears step by step, reminding them of their strength and helping them build a life that feels bigger than their anxiety.
What is the vision or mission of Reset & Rise, and what’s unique about the care you provide?
The mission of Reset & Rise is to offer children, adults, and families in the Birmingham area warm, evidence-based anxiety care that feels hopeful and supportive. I am especially passionate about using proven treatments, such as exposure-based therapy, while thoughtfully integrating mindfulness and wellness techniques.
Over time, my vision is to continue weaving in mindfulness and yoga practices to support anxiety and stress, and eventually incorporate equine-assisted therapy. This approach would integrate the healing connection with horses to deepen emotional regulation, confidence, and grounding.
At the heart of Reset & Rise is a simple belief: therapy does not have to feel cold or clinical. It can be evidence-based while also warm, creative, and even joyful. My goal is to support the nervous system through wellness practices so that as we do exposure work and face fears together, people feel safe, supported, and empowered.
What’s the most rewarding part of what you do?
The best part about what I do, is watching people find their inner strength. I love seeing positive changes in both the individual’s life and family relationships. I enjoy working with wonderful families and clients.

What advice would you give to a new mom or a mom going through a tough season
Becoming a mom is the most rewarding and challenging experience. The first few months/years as a new mom are met with the greatest joys, along with the weight of all new responsibilities on your shoulders. This responsibility, can turn into overwhelming anxiety. Here are a few tips if you are in the thick of it as a new mom:
- Rely on your support: Ask for help always. You do not need to do this alone. Rely on the people that love you to help in anyway that you need. If you do not have family near by, join a moms group or seek support online. Most of our anxiety can be helped when we find others experiencing similar stressors.
- Take time for you: Find small moments to put yourself first. Taking care of yourself is key before taking care of others. This allows you to show up for the people that you love.
- Clearly define your values: Begin making decisions based on what is important versus fear and anxiety. Practice meditation and yoga to help detach from thoughts and create some distance.

If you weren’t doing this work, what might you be doing instead?
If I were not a therapist and founder of Reset and Rise,I would be an event planner. I have a passion for organizing events, decorating, and focusing on intricate details that transform a gathering into a truly special experience. In my free time, I love to do yoga, ride horses and spend time with friends and family.
